Celtic aim to continue run
Clonmel Celtic will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run to 5 games when they travel to Galbally this Sunday for a 1st round Munster Cup tie. Celtic beat Gooldscross 5-1 in a preliminary round and have already beaten Galbally 3-1 at home. However Celtic know they will have to be at their best in this difficult away fixture. After a successful run in the Shield the B team will be hoping to pick up their first league points when they entertain St Kierans.

New signings
After the trauma and disapointment of the player exodus from Clonmel Celtic last August it is nice to announce movement in the opposite direction. Clonmel Celtic are happy to announce the signings of Brian Carroll, Ian Kavanagh, Adam McSherry, Danny Madigan and Ned Shoer. We wish these players the best of luck and I am sure they will add welcome competition for places.

B team reach first final
The B team advanced to the 3rd Division Shield final with an impressive 4-1 win away to Mullinahone. Trailing 3-2 going into the 2nd leg things didn't look good when Mullinahone scored after only 5 minutes. However Mullinahone had a player sent off after 30 minutes for a second bookable offence and Celtic took full advantage. Paddy 'Wack' O'Donnell had Celtic level at the break. Fifteen minutes into the second half O'Donnell set up Jockie Landers who scored to make the score 4-4 on aggregate. However Celtic finished stronger and Paddy 'Wack' O'Donnell scored a fine individual effort to put Celtic into a 3-1 lead and Eoin Ryan then scored a late goal to wrap things up for Celtic and the B team reach their first final where they will meet Redmonstown.

Five star Celtic
A Jekyll and Hyde performance saw Clonmel Celtic advance to the next round of the FAI Junior Cup with a 5-0 win away to Borris. There was nothing in Celtic's first half performance to suggest they would eventually win this tie with a lot to spare. They struggled in the first half and but for some sound defending and some excellent goalkeeping from John Ryan they could have been behind at half time. Whatever Michael Kiely said at half time certainly worked as they were a transformed side in the second half. Within 15 minutes of the restart Wayne Kiely had scored twice to put Celtic in command. With a two goal cushion Celtic grew in confidence and produced their best football of the season. Second half substitute David Joyce, who was inspirational when he came on, beat the offside trap to make it 3-0. With 15 minutes remaining the ball broke to Wayne Murray and his effort took a deflection to beat the Borris keeper for Celtic's fourth. Dessie Byrne, who came on as a second half sub, scored a fine effort to make the final score 5-0 to Celtic.

Decent point for Celtic
Clonmel Celtic came away from Bansha with a hard earned point following a 1-1 draw last Sunday. Celtic were on the back foot for much of the first half against a physically stronger Bansha outfit. Indeed they had keeper John Ryan to thank for keeping them in the tie as he produced a marvellous save to keep the sides level at the break. It was not all one way traffic though as Paddy ‘Wack’ O’Donnell had a great opportunity in the first half but he couldn’t keep his shot on target when played through. Celtic got a great start to the second half when Dessie Byrne was on hand to fire home an excellent cross from debutant Ian Kavanagh. However Celtic couldn’t hold onto the league and Bansha were level within two minutes. Although Bansha had most of the possession they didn’t create too many chances and a draw was probably a fair result in the end.

Mixed weekend for schoolboys
It was a mixed weekend for the schoolboys as the under 11s, 13s and 15s were all in action against Peake Villa. The best performance of the day came from the under 15s who beat the Thurles side 5-0. Michael O’Connor (2), Ger Kennedy, Robbie Parsons and a superb free kick from Steven O’Keeffee saw the under 15s pick up their first league points of the season. Peake Villa gained revenge in the under 11 encounter between the two sides as they cruised to an easy win. Niamh and Dara Brennan impressed for Celtic. The final under 13 match between the two teams was much closer. Conor Acheson with a fine free kick gave Celtic an early lead in this game but Seamus Healy had Villa level at the break. Peake hit a purple patch early in the second half and goals from Seamus Healy and Aidan Ryan saw them lead 3-1. Celtic recovered and an excellent long range effort from Conor Acheson brought it back to 3-2 but despite dominating the remainder of the game Celtic could not find an equaliser. If the under 13s can start games the way they finished this one they will win a lot more games than they lose this season.

B team surrender 2 goal lead
The B team gave up a 2 goal lead when they went down 2-3 at home to Mullinahone in the first leg of the Third Division Shield semi final. Celtic looked to have put themselves in a commanding position as they lead 2-0 at the break. After 10 minutes Jason Gartland scrambled home Celtic’s first and a Jockie Landers free kick doubled Celtic’s lead after 30 minutes. It all seemed to go wrong for Celtic in the second half when Tony Waters pulled one back for Mullinahone from the spot. Celtic responded poorly to this early setback in the second half and ten minutes later they found themselves behind as goals from Phil O’Shea and Ian Gahan had Mullinahone 3-2 up. Celtic eventually got back into the game and were unlucky not to force an equaliser when David Peters came close in the last minute.

Crucial win for Celtic
Clonmel Celtic 3 Borris 1
Clonmel Celtic collected a crucial three points with a well merited 3-1 win over Borris at Celtic Park last Sunday. This win gives Celtic a little breathing space though they will be aware they still have hard work ahead of them. Celtic, obviously aware of the importance of this game, got the perfect start and found themselves 2-0 up after 16 minutes. On 4 minutes Brian Waters rifled home to the top corner to give Celtic the lead. Ten minutes later the Borris keeper was unable to gather a Dessie Byrne cross and Andy Cosgrave was on hand to fire home Celtic’s second. Borris were then given a lifeline when Celtic conceeded a penalty which they missed to keep Celtic in the driving seat. Celtic continued to look the better side in the second half but then handed Borris a second lifeline when Johnny Cagney was red carded. Borris nearly took immediate advantage but Celtic keeper John Ryan, who was making a welcome return, produced a tremendous double save to protect Celtic’s two goal lead. Celtic then extended their advantage to three when Brian Waters scored from the spot. Borris did have the satisfaction of scoring the goal of the game when Brian Carroll volleyed home a fine effort with 10 minutes remaining but for Borris it was a case of too little too late.

Big win for 14s
Clonmel Celtic 6 Clerihan F.C 2
An impressive scoring day for Celtic as they were convincing winners of this league encounter. Celtic were quicker to settle and some good interchange play in the attacking third saw Conor Acheson netting a brace in the first twenty minutes. Clerihan settled and reorganised and looked threatening on the break and struck clinically to make the score line 2-1. Once again the midfield partnership of Ashley Keane and Jeff Jones impressed while the energetic and imaginative Kevin Larkin also stood out. With the creative Paddy Hayde commanding the ball in the middle Celtic always looked a threat. Despite losing Shola Oki through injury Conor Acheson completed his hat trick to leave Celtic 3-1 up at the break. A sublime chip from captain Jeff Jones put the game beyond doubt as Celtic made it 4-1 early in the second half. Clerihan pulled a goal back from the spot but Celtic picked it up again and late goals from Conor Acheson and a fine volley from the hard working Stephen O’Connell saw Celtic comfortable 6-2 winners.

Important week for Celtic
Celtic face a very important week as you feel their next two league games could make or break their season. This Sunday Celtic are at home to Borris while next week we travel to Bansha Celtic. These are the kind of games where Celtic need to pick up points to drag themselves away from a relegaion fight. On Sunday Celtic entertain a Borris side also desperate for points so Celtic will have to be at their very best to take the points. In the corresponding fixture last year Celtic had to rely on a late Paul Kennedy goal to clinch a 2-1 win. In Wayne Kiely hopefully Celtic have found the goalscorer they have been lacking. His impressive finishing last week where he hit a hat trick suggests we may have found a replacement for Kennedy. Lets hope so. Meanwhile the B team entertain Mullinahone in the first leg of the Third Division Shield semi final.

Celtic advance in Munster
Clonmel Celtic put their recent turmoil behind them with a comfortable 5-1 win over Gooldscross in the first round of the Munster Junior Cup last Sunday. John Mullins settled Celtic’s nerves with an early strike but an error allowed Richie Hennessy in for an immediate equaliser for the first division side. Midway through the first half Celtic regained the lead with a Wayne Kiely effort and Celtic lead 2-1 at the break. Wayne Murray powered home a header to put Celtic into a commanding lead early in the second half. Gooldscross did create a few chances and a goal at this stage could have made this game very interesting but poor finishing let them down. On 70 minutes Wayne Kiely scored the goal of the game when he beautifully controlled a long pass and with the deftest of touches he coolly lobbed the keeper for an exquisite finish to make it 4-1 to Celtic. With 8 minutes remaining Wayne Kiely was again played through and once again he showed superb ball control to take the ball past the Gooldscross keeper to complete his hat trick and a rather flattering 5-1 win for Celtic.

Cup joy for under 13s
Clonmel Celtic 4-0 Thomastown (Kilkenny).
Clonmel Celtic played host to Thomastown in the preliminary rounds of the national cup on Saturday. Celtic had the greater share of possession in the first half, with Ben Brown playing well wide on the right wing, delivering some good crosses early on and Sean Tobin working very hard up front to create chances. Thomastown's defence held firm until the 20th minute when Conor Acheson's pass put Sean Tobin through on goal and he showed great composure to score with the defenders closing in. Thomastown almost got an equalizer late in the first half but John Smyth was quick off his line to dive bravely at the feet of the forward. Celtic continued to dominate the game in the second half and Michael Doyle scored his first with a curling shot inside the right hand post. Celtic kept up the momentum and added a third when Conor Acheson's pass through the centre of the Thomastown defence was collected by Michael Doyle who kept his cool to add Celtic's third and his second of the day .Celtic were well on top now and kept the best until last when Conor Acheson won possession on the edge of his own penalty area and made a powerful run down the right wing before delivering a right footed cross which found Rohn Kahn who dispatched the ball to the roof of the net with a perfect volley from 12 yards out .Well done to all the players involved especially Rory Doyle , Stephan Carey Colin Alyward and Philip Quirke in defence who all played their part in the victory.

Munster Junior Cup
Clonmel Celtic take a (welcome) break from the league this Sunday when they entertain 1st Division Gooldscross in the 1st round of the Munster Junior Cup. Until Michael Kiely finds a settled squad of players every Celtic game at the moment is very difficult to predict. However if he can get anywhere near his favoured starting line up for Sunday you feel Celtic should advance against a team that have lost their first three league games. Although only the most optimistic can see a run in the Munster Junior Cup for Celtic this year a win on Sunday would do a bit for the team's confidence ahead of a very important league game against Borris next Sunday week. Meanwhile the B team kick off their league campaign with a home tie against Hollyford and with two Shield wins already behind them Celtic will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. At schoolboy level the under 13s entertain Thomastown from Kilkenny in the FAI National Cup.

Opening day draw for 14s
Rock Rovers 2 Clonmel Celtic 2
Celtic was unlucky not to take all three points in their first league game against a physical and well organised Rock Rover’s team in Carrick last Saturday. Although Celtic monopolised possession in the early stages, a defensive error allowed Rovers to take the lead. Despite having a lot more of the ball Celtic could not find that final pass to create more decisive chances though they did have strong claims for a penalty when Kevin Larkin was taken down by the Rover’s keeper. Celtic trailed 1-0 at the break and introduced Christopher O’Gorman and Stevie O’Connell having lost Kevin Larkin to a wrist injury. Celtic continued to have the upperhand retaining the ball well and continually asking questions of the Rovers defence. They finally equalised when Stevie O’Connell was played through and he tucked the ball away under the advancing goalkeeper. Shola Oki was having a fine debut for Celtic, using the ball well and making some fine powerful runs. With 10 minutes remaining Celtic took the lead when Rohan Kahn was upended by the Rover’s keeper and Conor Acheson fired home the resulting penalty to give Celtic a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately Celtic could not hold on after a late Rover’s rally and despite getting his hand to the ball Cianan O’Sullivan was unable to keep out a late Rock Rovers free kick that levelled the game at 2-2. The defensive partnership of Eoin O’Connor and Evan Hickey was strong and well supported by the creative Paddy Hayde. We hope both Kevin and Rohan make speedy recoveries from their injuries and training continues next Friday at 4pm in Ferryhouse.

Tough test for Celtic
New look Clonmel Celtic face a very tough test this weekend when they travel to Tipperary to take on St Michaels. If this Celtic team had stayed together and we didn't have that ridiculous sensational reaction to their opening day defeat you feel we could have, at least, pushed St Michaels all the way for 2nd place this season. However although the Tipp side appeared to have taken a step backwards, with 2 defeats already this season, Celtic have taken a half dozen step backwards with the loss of so many players. It is for this reason it is difficult to see us get anything from this game. However we live in hope and hopefully we will get a performance that will augur well for the bigger league games that are to come. This game kicks off at 7.45pm on Saturday night. The B team have no game this weekend.

Clonmel Celtic had a welcome win last Sunday as they gained a well deserved 3 points with a 2-1 win away to Cahir. Celtic were on top from sart to finish and were full value for this victory. Celtic lead through a Eddie Doyle goal at the break with Brian Carroll adding a 2nd miday through the second half. An understrength Cahir side did pull a goal back late on but Celtic held on for an important 3 points. To complete a good weekend at junior level the B team made it to the semi final of the 3rd Division Shield with a 2-1 win away to Kilsheelan. Celtic, who took a 4-1 lead into this game, trailed 1-0 at the break but second half goals from Eoin Ryan and Jockie Landers saw them run out comfortable 6-2 winners on aggregate.

Celtic keen to avoid SSS
The concept of second season syndrome is usually associated with the dangers facing a team's second season in a new league following a very successful debut season. Although Celtic are not in this position people might understand where I'm coming from when I mention this much talked about concept. The simple fact is the stakes have been raised for Celtic and expectations are high after a very successful and impressive campaign last year. It will be a very difficult season for Celtic as teams, especially the top two, will be much better prepared for us after our clashes with Town and Michaels last year. However with the entire squad signed from last year with Mick Wallace (defender/midfielder)joining us from Kilkenny we have reason to be excited and optimistic about the new season. Clonmel Celtic will kick off the season at home to champions Clonmel Town this Sunday so we whould have an early indication as to whether the boys are up for it again. After 2 exciting draws last season Celtic will be hoping to claim that first elusive victory against Town. Come on the Celts!!!

Saints B stand in our way
St Michaels B stand in the way of Clonmel Celtic claiming their first bit of silverware at junior level. The Tipperary Cup final will kick off at 3pm this Sunday in Cahir and Celtic will go into the final as favourites. Their favouritism is well merited as they have been excellent over the last few weeks and have claimed their highest league finish in third place on 34 points, just 3 points adrift on champions Clonmel Town. St Michaels B are the first B team to contest a Tipperary Cup final and they will go into this game relishing the tag of underdogs. They had an average league campaign finishing mid table in Division 1 having lost more games than they won. However their cup form has been excellent as they chase a hat trick of cup wins having already won the Shield and Paddy Purtill Cup. They have also knocked out 2 decent Premier teams, Borris and Peake Villa on their way to the final so they have definitely reached this stage on merit. They are without doubt a danger and will be respected. However on form Celtic should win this and we just hope the occasion does not get to them. St Michaels will have a few experienced players in their ranks who have played in finals before and this should stand to them. Celtic will be mindful of their very poor finish to the semi final game. Let's hope that's out of their system as we can't afford a repeat of that. Best of luck to Kenny and his squad. They deserve a reward for what has been a fantastic season. Clonmel Celtic will face Rock Rovers at 6pm next Monday night in Cooke Park, Tipperary with a place in the Tipperary Cup Final up for grabs. The venue was originally fixed for Cashel but there was a late change of venue. Celtic have already beaten Rock in both the Munster and FAI Junior Cups this season but they will not take the Carrick side for granted. Prior to their clashes this season Celtic had lost all previous encounters (six in all) with Rock Rovers so they will have to be very much on their guard against a team, who by winning the 1st Division title, have reclaimed their place in the Premier League. This will be a tough encounter but you shouldn't expect anything less in a semi final of a cup. Celtic on recent form should do it but Rock will push them all the way.

Don't underestimate Bansha
Clonmel Celtic will be favourites to reach the semi final of the Tipperary Cup when they host Bansha Celtic this Sunday. After two excellent performances against St Michaels and Clonmel Town, Celtic justify being favourites but they would underestimate Bansha at their peril. Bansha effectively ended Celtic's league hopes when they won 4-3 at Celtic Park a few months ago. Since then Celtic had to come back from a 2 goal deficit to score a slightly fortuitous 3-2 victory in Bansha five weeks ago. Earlier in the season Celtic knocked an under strength Bansha out of the Munster Junior Cup 0n a 5-1 scoreline. If Celtic can repeat recent performances they shouldn't have any problems, however any dip in form will see a Bansha side, buoyed by their relegation play off win, ready to pounce!

Ref bottles it
Referee, John Teehan, was at the centre of controversy last Sunday when he failed to award Clonmel Celtic a late penalty after Danny Madigan was hacked down in the Town box. If he did show the courage to award the spot kick Celtic could have clinched this game 3-2 thus putting Town's celebrations on ice. The 2-2 draw was enough to land Town their fourth league title in a row. Paul Kennedy and Brian Waters scored Celtic's goals in a pulsating encounter. (See Reports Section).

Clonmel Celtic entertain Clonmel Town this Sunday in their final home game of the season. Celtic will be hoping to put on ice Town celebrations by depriving them of the point they need to win the league. Celtic still have a remote chance of forcing a three way play off but realisitically though we will be just hoping to make Town work very hard for the points or point they need on Sunday. Our record against Town needs to improve and Sunday would be the ideal time to change our fortunes against our neighbours. Our cause will not be helped by the absence of Stephen Ryan who is serving the first of a two match ban.

Clonmel Celtic entertain St Michaels this Sunday in what is a crucial game

Celtic won't have the same pressure coming into this game but a positive

Celtic hit by suspensions & injuries
The bad weather proved fortuitous for Celtic over the Christmas break as
their FAI Junior Cup tie against Grattan Utd in Cork was cancelled. Cup
rules dictate that when a game is postponed venues are switched for the
re-arranged game. This means that Celtic will now battle it out with Grattan
next Sunday (1.15 k.o) in Clonmel for a place in the last 32. Although now
favoured by home advantage Celtic go into this tie with huge problems. They
are missing leading goalscorer Paul Kennedy and influential midfielder Andy
Cosgrave through suspension, Paddy O'Donnell is cup tied and Danny Madigan
and Graham Doyle are still out injured. There is also a doubt over David
Peters who suffered a rib injury in last Sunday's cup victory over
Mullinahone. There is a possibility of call ups for youth striker Emmet
Johnson and Derry Peters. With some many players missing a tricky game has
been made that bit harder but I suspect that home advantage will see Celtic

Celtic have made their best ever start to a season and find them selves
nicely positioned in the league and in the last 64 of both the Munster and

Celtic team have come in such a short period. You can't ask for a tougher
test that neighbours Town who have such a good cup pedigree and are current
holders of the Muster Junior Cup. The sides already met on the opening day
of the season with the game ending 2-2 at the Complex. Some may feel that
Celtic caught Town a bit cold that day , as Town looked sluggish and
lethargic and only really got going after falling 2 behind. However Celtic's
form against Town has improved over the last year. Up to last season we had
never scored against them, this we rectified when we very unfortunate to
lose 2-1 last season after being 1 up and of course as I have already stated
we drew 2-2 earlier in the season. We need now to take that extra step by
beating Town and finally receiving credit for the very good team we have
become. We can do that Sunday if we believe in ourselves and give 90 minutes
of hard work. The B team travel to St Michaels B in the first round of the

they have finally recorded a victory against the Carrick side and will go
into Sunday's clash with renewed confidence. However what last Sunday also
proved they will have to be at their very best, and possibly improve on last
Sunday's performance, as this Rock Rovers side are a very decent outfit. In
the youth league the youths have a very tough game away to league leaders St
Michaels on Saturday. Meanwhile in the Junior League the B team are rapidly
running out of games. They face fellow strugglers Glengoole Utd this Sunday
in a game they simply have to win. Since beating Glengoole on the opening
day of the season Celtic have failed to record a win so Sunday's game is
vital in their fight against the drop.

Dogged Celtic advance
Two excellent second half goals from Paulie Landers and Stephen Ryan ensured
Celtic's safe passage to the 4th round Munster Junior Cup after a tough
struggle against Rock Rovers. Played in difficult conditions Celtic were on
the backfoot for most of the first half but emerged in the second half and
produced a performance which saw them run out worthy winners (See Reports
Section). Meanwhile the B team continue to struggle as they went down 4-1
away to Sarsfield Rovers with Brianie Landers on the mark for Celtic.

Celtic eye new record
Having achieved two records so far this year, 3 players selected for TSDL and 10 match unbeaten run, Clonmel Celtic will aim to end an unwanted record this Sunday. For some inexplicable reason Clonmel Celtic have never beaten Rock Rovers, in truth their record against them is nothing short of scandalous with 6 games ending in 6 defeats. With Celtic facing Rovers in successive weeks in both the Munster and FAI Junior Cup now would be the perfect time to end this dreadful run. This will be the third time Celtic have been on the road with the challenges becoming more difficult each time, Redmonstown , Vee Rovers and now Rock Rovers. Make no doubt about it,Rovers, who are also unbeaten this season, will push Celtic all the way but we should just about edge it. Regarding Celtic's poor record against the Carrick side I should say, in mitigation, that some of these games were end of season matches where Celtic were already safe and Rovers needed the points to avoid the drop. The rewards are very obvious over the next two weeks and are of equal importance to both sides.

B team go down again
With no games in the Premier League because of the Oscar Traynor tie on Saturday night (youth team's game was also postponed because of this) the B team were the only side in action. Unfortunately their woes continued as they went down 2-0 to Vee Rovers. Celtic competed well for large segments of this game but their finishing let them down. They paid the price in the second half as two goals saw Rovers run out comfortable winners in the end. It looks at this stage as if Celtic could have a battle on their hands to avoid the drop but they do have plenty of games left to turn the situation around.

Ryan & Kennedy chase record
Paul Kennedy and Stephen Ryan are battling it out to become Clonmel Celtic's
all time leading goalscorer. The record is currently held by Paddy 'Whack'
O'Donnell with 25 goals. Both Stephen and Paul are now on 22 goals apiece so
it seems only a matter of time before we have a new record holder. Who will
get there first??

Ryan finds scoring boots
There's nothing like a goal to ease your scoring problems. Stephen Ryan
scored on the opening day of the season but then went 6 games without a
goal. Celtic were not affected too much thanks to his goal mad partner Paul
Kennedy. However Stephen eventually ended his drought against Cashel and
last Sunday's brace means he has now scored 5 times in his last 3 games.

draw with a comfortable 5-1 win away to Bansha Celtic. Celtic were one up at
the break thanks to a stunning effort from Paul Kennedy. Celtic took
complete control in the second half and further goals from Stephen Ryan (2),
Andy Cosgrave and Wayne Murray saw them run out easy 5-1 winners.( See
Reports Section). Celtic will be joined in the last regional round by
Killusty, Peake Villa, Wilderness Rovers, Borris, Ballingarry, Cahir,

Penalty triumph again
For the third time this season the youths were involved in a penalty shoot out. Having lost out to St Michaels in the FAI Youth Cup Celtic added to their triumph over Cahir with a 4-2 penalty shoot out win over Nenagh Celtic in the Munster Youths Cup. Gary Doyle had given Celtic a 1-0 interval lead but a late penalty (dubiously given) brought the game to extra time and a penalty shoot out. Celtic had a 100% success rate in the shoot out with Johnny Cagney, Emmet Johnson, Christopher Quinn and birthday boy Lyden Hughes all hitting the net
