Two sweetly struck second half goals from Freddie Wall set Clonmel Celtic Under 14s on their way to a 2-1 win over Shanbally Utd in the U14 Championship Cup final in Cahir yesterday. It was a near prefect afternoon for Freddie. Apart from his two fine goals he was also awarded man of the match and as team captain collected the cup from his mum Jennifer at the end. The first half was a rather scrappy affair as both teams struggled with the All Weather surface. Adam Frejek and Josef Podzimek had efforts for Celtic that failed to trouble the Shanbally keeper while Shanbally themselves probably had two better chances at the other end with neither finding the target. The game changed 5 minutes into the second half when Freddie Wall fired home a superb free kick that touched the crossbar as it found the net. Spurred on by this success Freddie tried his luck from distance again and struck an even better shot from distance that found the roof of the net that put Celtic 2-0 up with 20 minutes remaining. Shanbally kept plugging away and were rewarded with ten minutes on the clock when Billy Carey nodded home from close range to make it 2-1 to set up an anxious final few moments for Celtic. However the Celtic defence held form as the game finished 2-1 with a happy Celtic collected the U14 Championship Cup after.
