Clonmel Celtic 0 Bansha Celtic 1, Tipperary Cup Rd 2, 9th March 2025
A sweetly struck effort from Robbie Byron on 55 minutes was enough to settle this tie that sees Bansha Celtic advance to the Tipperary Cup Quarter final at a sunny Clonmel today. It's been a tough season for Bansha who look to be on their way to Division 1 but they took full advantage of a flat Clonmel Celtic performance. Celtic had the better of the opening stages but didn't create enough clear openings as a rather uneventful first half finished level. Celtic came close early in the second half when Andrew Brown crashed a header against the Bansha bar and the rebound was cleared off the line. The home team were rocked on 55 minutes when Robbie Byron connected with a corner kick to fire a fine effort home from the edge of the box. As expected Celtic immediately upped their effort in response and were unlucky on a number of occasions not to draw level with Julian Kerton hitting the post and a Jack Purcell effort was just over after a fine solo run. With something to hold onto Bansha battled hard and held firm to record a welcome win.
Clonmel Celtic B 0 SC & KU 4, Munster Junior Trophy Q/F, 2nd March 2025
Clonmel Celtic B's interest in the Munster Shield ended today as they were well beaten with SC & KU running out convincing 4-0 winners. It was a scrappy game and the visitors were good value for their win. The visitors hit the front on 9 minutes. A Sean Garland free brought a fine save from Benny Conway but the resulting corner kick was turned into his own net by a Celtic defender. Both sides battled for supremacy and though there was no lack of effort neither side were able to take control. On 30 minutes Sean Cronin produced a fine save from William Murphy as Celtic came close to an equaliser. Barry Kiely did well on the right moments later and his cross found Kyle Kennedy who in turn set up Ross Condon and his shot was just off target. Kilsheelan came close on 44 minutes with Benny Conway denying John O'Dwyer with a fine save. Just on half time the visitors doubled their lead when Celtic failed to clear and John O'Dwyer fired home at the far post to leave it 2-0 at the break. Celtic almost made the ideal start to the second half when Ewan Rumble headed against the upright from a corner but in truth that's how as good as it got from Celtic. Their cause was made even harder on the hour mark when they were reduced to 10 men. Kilsheelan took control of the remainder of the game. On 77 minutes Cian Roche made it 3-0 when he scored from a tight angle and then a good move on 79 minutes ended with Gus Nolan heading home at the far post as the visitors advanced to the Munster Shield semi final with a convincing 4-0 win.
Shannon Hibernians (Clare) 3 Clonmel Celtic B 4, Munster Junior Trophy Rd 5, 2nd February 2025
Clonmel Celtic advanced to the Munster Shield Quarter Final after an exciting win in a seven goal thriller in Shannon yesterday. It looked like it would be a long trip in vain as the home side got off to a flyer and goals from Ogie Harrington and Darren Lindsay had Shannon Hibernians 2-0 up after 15 minutes with two well worked breaks down the right. Celtic settled and on 30 mins grabbed one back when Rhys Lonergan poked home from a corner.
At this stage Celtic had a couple more chances but for the Shannon keeper could have been level. Just before half time Shannon extended their lead to 3-1 when Ogie Harrington finished a fine effort from the edge of the box. to leave Shannon Hibs 3-1 to the good at the break. Celtic came fast out of the blocks in the second and on 50 minutes Jack Lawlor scored to make it 3-2. On the hour mark Celtic were level with a great finish from Kyle Kennedy. Sensing the win Celtic made some changes and it was substitute Luke Hannigan who got the winner when a well worked move down the left saw Jack Aylward break free and squared to Luke Hannigan who fired home to the delight of travelling Celtic Team and Supporters.
Clonmel Town 3 Clonmel Celtic 4, TSDL Premier Youths League, 18th January 2025
Clonmel Celtic made it three wins from three in the TSDL Premier League as they edged out Clonmel Town in a seven goal thriller at the Complex this afternoon. This was a mixed bag of a performance from Celtic. They put together some nice phases of play and scored some fine goals but shouldn't have been hanging on at the end having been 4-1 up just minutes into the second period. Celtic had the first effort on goal in the first minute with the Town keeper getting down to save Luke Hannigan's effort. Maybe it was they hadn't been in action for a while but Celtic never really got going and sensing this Town got a foothold in the game with their full back testing James O'Brien with a long range effort. They came closer on 13 minutes when Harry Tobin got on the end of a free kick but he couldn't get any power in his header that was comfortably saved. Celtic were struggling under the Town keeper's long wind assisted kick outs and they fell behind on 13 minutes when once again failing to deal with such a kick Town's number 9 took advantage and fired home. Celtic hit back almost immediately with a tidy finish from Jack Aylward. On 24 minutes James O'Brien kept Celtic ahead with a stunning save from Harry Tobin that he tipped on to the woodwork. Celtic came close on 35 minutes when Luke Hannigan cut in from the left and his effort was just over. Celtic were ahead a minute late following an excellent move. Jamal Yousif's pinpoint pass found Jack Aylward on the right and his cross was clinically finished by Finn Napier to put Celtic ahead. Celtic scored again five minutes later with an even better worked goal that saw some beautiful touches from Finn Napier and Jack Aylward that set up Cillian Fitzgerald who fired home to give Celtic a 3-1 interval lead. Celtic made the perfect start to the second half with another smashing goal. Oisin O'Malley found Jack Aylward on the right and his pass released Finn Napier who whipped a first time effort across the Town keeper to make it 4-1. At this stage it looked a case of how many Celtic would score but credit the home side who held on and worked their way back into the game aided by Celtic losing their way a little. On 60 minutes Town made it 2-4 with their number 9 slotting home from close range after good work by Harry Tobin on the left. The goal gave Town confidence as they came more into the game. Celtic struggled to regain control as Town pushed forward. With seven minutes left it was game on as Patyrk Galka slotted home Town's third. Jamal Yousif also most eased Celtic's fans concerns late on with a fine effort that cracked the Town bar. In the end Celtic were relieved that Town's second half comeback came up short. An important win for Celtic but lessons to be learned on how not to let a team back into a game from a 4-1 lead!
Tramore AFC 3 Clonmel Celtic 2, Munster Youths Cup Round 5, 15th December 2024
Clonnel Celtic just came up short in their Munster Youth Cup 5th round tie away to Tramore today. After turning around a two goal half time deficit Celtic looked the more likely as the game entered the final stages until Josh Roche pounced to end Celtic's interest in this year's competition. It was the quintessential game of two halves. The home side had the best of the opening half and threatened in the very first minute when a mix up in the Celtic defence nearly proved costly. Despite a slow start Celtic had the first effort on target when a Luke Hannigan cross found Finn Napier but his header was saved by Brendan Collins after four minutes. On 11 minutes Cillian Fitzgerald was on the end of a good move but he shot over. Tramore always looked dangerous when they attacked and they hit the front on 15 minutes. Celtic will be disappointed that they failed to deal with a route one ball and Paddy Barrett took advantage to nudge the ball past James O'Brien to give the home side the lead. Tramore enjoyed a good spell with James O'Brien twice denying Josh Roche as Tramore looked for a second. They did double their lead on 31 minutes with Celtic one again failing to deal with long ball over the top. Josh Roche raced on to the long clearance a finished well to make it 2-0. After a slow start to the second half Celtic suddenly burst into life. On 55 minutes Luke Hannigan forced a fine save from Brendan Collins and he got up quickly to deny Jack Aylward from the rebound. Celtic were on top at this stage and were back in the game on 66 minutes when Jack Aylward was on the end of a Luke Hannigan centre to steer the ball past Collins. Celtic poured forward with renewed confidence and Cillian Fitzgerald twice came close for Celtic. He didn't have to wait much longer though as in the 73rd minutes he expertly headed home Luke Hannigan's cross to bring Celtic level. Celtic were in the ascendancy at this stage as they chased a winner. Jack Aylward had the ball in the net on 80 minutes but it was ruled out for offside. The home side looked little leg weary late on though they did come close on 81 minutes when they struck the crossbar. They came even closer in the 89th minute when Darby Sheridan showed some neat footwork in the Celtic box but was denied by an excellent save from James O'Brien. From the resulting corner the ball dropped to Josh Roche and he fired home to win the game for Tramore. It was a cruel ending for Celtic who did ever so well to get themselves back into the contest.
Clonmel Celtic 0 Bridge Utd (Clare) 3, Munster Junior Cup Rd 4, 8th December 2024
It was an afternoon to forget for Clonmel Celtic as they made a rather tame exit from the Munster Junior Cup crashing 3-0 to Clare side Bridge Utd. Celtic made a very sloppy start to the game handing the initiative to Bridge from the off. Fabian Kerton denied Brian Corry after just 3 minutes and 5 minutes later Ger Myles crashed a header against the inside of the post. On a rare venture into the opposition half Kyle Cuddy came close for Celtic with cross come shot that Seanie Hawkins came close to converting at the far post. Bridge got the goal they were threatening on 13 minutes when Celtic failed to deal with a free kick and Ger Miles did well to squeeze a shot inside the post. On 25 minutes Peter O'Dowd tested the Bridge keeper for the first time with a shot that was saved comfortably. Within a minute Celtic were a 2-0 down when Brian Corry headed home at the far post after more poor defending. The game became very scrappy with two players, one from each side red carded. Bridge nearly made it three on 34 minutes when a deflected effort came off the crossbar. The second half was only ten minutes in when both players lost another player each as the game deteriorated as spectacle. Despite the visitors being very comfortable Celtic had two great chances to get back into the game in a three minute spell around the 70th minutes mark. Keeper John Mulready's outstretched leg denied Darren Sweeney and when the ball broke to Sweeney again after a scramble he couldn't keep his effort down and the chance went. Celtic came even closer a minute later when Jack Purcell played Niall Prendergast in but he shot wide. Bridge had a few chances to put the game to bed on a number of counters but some excellent defending from Ayo Williams kept Celtic hanging in. However Bridge put the game to bed on 75 minutes when Dom Griffin took advantage of another error to make it 3-0 and wrap up the game for the Clare side. A very disappointing afternoon for Celtic who never got going and allowed Bridge Utd win a game without even having to be at their best.
Clonmel Celtic 1 Cahir Park 1, TSDL Premier League, 24th November 2024
Clonmel Celtic had to settle for a share of the spoils after this morning's clash with Cahir finished 1-1. The Celtic side showed a number of changes from last week and despite some good periods of play never quite matched recent impressive performances. They started on the front foot with Julian Kerton having an early effort blocked. The visitors had their first real effort on 11 minutes when a long range shot from Ian Flannery had Celtic keeper Fabian Kerton concerned. They should have hit the front a minute later when Celtic carelessly lost the ball but Niall Daly's effort lacked power and was easily saved by Kerton. However Cahir didn't have long more to wait and hit the front on 25 minutes with a fine free kick from John O'Brien. Celtic were struggling to create any real chances though Rory O'Dowd came close on 41 minutes with a shot that was just off target. They did manage to equalise just before the break when John O'Connor bundled home Peter O'Dowd's corner kick from close range. Despite playing into strong wind in the second half Cahir enjoyed plenty of possession and Fabian Kerton got down well to deny Niall Daly on 46 minutes. Celtic looked dangerous on the counter and came desperately close to regaining the lead on 53 minutes. Peter O'Dowd's free kick was tipped on to the bar and John O'Connor headed the rebound against the bar before the ball was cleared to safety. Celtic finished strongly and came close on a number occasions to getting that all important second. Sean Hawkins and Darren Sweeney both had efforts that were just off target and when Seanie Hawkins was on target from a header Brian Sweeney pulled off a fine save. In the end they couldn't find that second goal and had to settle for a point.
Clonmel Celtic 1 Borris 0 TSDL Premier League 17th November 2024
Despite a strong finish from Borris the home side held on to advance to the 4th round of the Munster Junior Cup today. Although Borris were pushing hard for an equaliser Celtic will feel they did enough earlier in the game to merit the 1-0 win. Celtic nearly made the perfect start when the Borris keeper couldn't hold on to a shot in the first minute but Celtic weren't quick enough to react. On 7 minutes Kyle Cuddy went on a run and fired narrowly over. It was a bright start by Celtic but Borris were well organised and got behind the ball in numbers. When they did break they looked dangerous and from one of these quick counters Urban Nolan headed narrowly over. Celtic were nearly in on 17 minutes when Sean Hawkins pounced on a loose ball but he couldn't keep his composure and fired well wide. Celtic enjoyed a good period enjoying plenty of possession and they made this count on 27 minutes when a Borris defender diverted an excellent Cillian Hogan cross past his own keeper. On 33 minutes Ayo Williams went on a run deep into the Borris half and played in Sean Hawkins who was crowded out by the Borris defence and the chance went. Borris almost went in level at the break but Jason Kelly was denied by a brilliant Fabian Kerton save. The Celtic keeper was in action again early in the second half with another fine save after a scramble in the Celtic box. Borris were enjoying more of the ball at this stage though Kyle Cuddy fired narrowly wide on 54 minutes after being set up by Darren Sweeney. Borris were looking more dangerous as the second progressed and were narrowly off target from a free kick on 65 minutes. Celtic nearly made the game safe on 79 minutes with a great effort from Rory O'Dowd. He turned inside his marker and curled a fine effort that looked destined for the top corner before Jack Dolan touched the ball onto the bar. Borris threw everything at Celtic in the final 10 minutes and came desperately close to an equaliser in the last minute but once again were thwarted again by Fabian Kerton who pushed a rasping effort on to the crossbar and away for a corner as Celtic held on to advance by the narrowest of margins.
