It was far from their best performance this season but Clonmel Celtic Under 15s got the point they needed to win the U15 Championship last night with two games to spare. Celtic came into this game against the only team who could catch them, Peake Villa B, with a perfect record of seven wins from seven. However it was evident from early on that Celtic, who were missing a few players, had a battle on their hands. It was a slow sluggish start but Celtic got them selves in front on 15 minutes when Jakub Zadarko nodded home from close range after Villa failed to deal with a corner. This seemed to spark the visitors into life and they had the better of the remainder of the half causing the Celtic defence plenty of problems. They got a deserved equaliser when a careless pass was seized upon and the ball was flashed to the net to leave it 1-1 at the break. Celtic needed to up their game and in fairness they did in the second half and Freddie Wall saw his free kick clip the bar. Villa remained very much a threat and Celtic keeper Daniel Keating had to be alert on more than one occasion to deny the visitors when they broke through. With 10 minutes remaining Celtic regained the lead with a fine solo effort from Ryan McCabe. He raced down the wing, cut inside and curled a lovely effort to the bottom corner. Celtic nearly sealed the win when Michael Hahessy saw a fine header from a corner crash against the crossbar. With 5 minutes remaining Celtic were again punished then they failed to clear and a good finish made it 2-2. Villa pushed for the winner that would keep their own title hopes alive but Daniel Keating produced two excellent saves in the last few minutes as Celtic held on to clinch a well deserved title. Well done to management team of Shane Byrne and James Keating and their squad for a great season.
