It may not be quite a pheonix from the ashes type revivial but Clonmel Celtic's recovery from a poor start to the season was impressive nonetheless. It was a difficult preseason for Celtic. Three players moved on and in such a competitive environment that is junior soccer in Clonmel the club struggled to get in the players they wanted. When you add the fact that they started the season with players missing through injury a tough beginning was looking likely. It ended up been Celtic's poorest start to the season in a number of years and successive defeats to Borris, Cullen Lattin and Peake Villa left them rooted to the bottom with a big battle ahead of them. Their first three games of the season saw them score just three times and concede 13, relegation form no doubt. In fairness to the boys they rolled up their sleeves and fought back with a vengeance kicked started by a comprehensive 5-0 win at home to Cashel. They only lost one game in their next five with a goal difference of 9 for and 2 against, quite an impressive turnaround. Celtic quickly sorted out their defence that was breached only twice in their last 5 league games. St Michaels are the only team to beat them since their disastrous start to the season. a narrow 1-0 defeat in Tipperary where you could say the Celtic defensive revival began and they also eventually got past Celtic in extra time in the Munster Junior Cup.
Celtic are back in action this Sunday away to Cahir Park where they know any kind of postive result should all but guarantee thier Premier League status. I'm sure the boys will be eager to keep their post Christmas form going and bring that form into the Tipperary Cup where hopefully they can challenge this year.
