Clonmel Celtic suffered their first league defeat in nearly four months when they went down 2-1 to Cullen Lattin yesterday. Celtic started well and Keenan Kerton came close with an effort that was just over the bar. Celtic were served notice on 10 minutes when Cullen had a goal disallowed for a foul on debutant keeper Eugen Bagus. Eugen was called into action a moment later doing well to push away an effort as Cullen began to settle. He was beaten on 14 minutes when a fine long distance effort from Ben Carey found the corner. Celtic battled back and Niall Prendergast came close before Keenan Kerton had an effort ruled out for a marginal offside after a good move. Cullen doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half when Michael Elligott's effort found the bottom corner. In fairness to Celtic they battled back gamely and halved the deficit on 80 minutes with a fine run and finish from Kyle Cuddy. Celtic launched a late onslaught in search of an equaliser and were denied at the death when stand in sub keeper got down to push away Cian O'Sullivan's effort. There wasn't much in this contest with Cullen being rewarded the points with two quality strikes.
It was a day to forget for Clonmel Celtic Youths as they crashed to a heavy defeat at home to Peake Villa on Saturday. Celtic started well but missed two good opportunities to take a lead in the first 20 minutes. The visitors made them pay and goals from Izaghi Freitas and Conor Donnelly had Villa 2-0 up at the break. Villa came flying out of the blocks in the second half and efforts from Izaghi Freitas, Roman Katrich, Charlie Lawlor and Conor Donnelly had them 6-0 up before Tristan Lawlor scored from the spot for Celtic. The respite for Celtic was brief though as the visitors finished strongly and goals from Jason Paterson, Sean Bergin and Dean Troy saw them run out convincing 9-1 winners.
